A native of Portugal, Manuela Mourão has lived in the US for twenty-four years. She is an Associate Professor of English at Old Dominion University. Formally trained as a literary and cultural critic, she has published mainly on 18th- and 19th-century literature and culture. Once she began painting, the scope of her work expanded to explore the intersections of art, scholarship, and personal experience. She has exhibited her work at the Virginia Contemporary Art Center, the Selden Gallery, the Vienna Kunsthalle, the Charles H. T. Center, and Lorrie Saunders Art Gallery.
